The Effects of Running on Central Nervous System

The brain is the control center for the system and resides inside the skull. The nervous system comprises mainly of nerves and the brain. The spinal column contains the most imperative nerves in the spine. The nerve fibers are responsible for transmitting impulses (messages) from the brain to the entire body. The nervous system coordinates all physical reactions, emotions, and feelings in the body.

Running is a form of exercise. It is an act consciously or unconsciously performed by many in day-to-day life. Along with various other benefits of running such as slimming the waist, trimming the hips, building stronger leg muscles and a bigger butt comes its benefit on the human central nervous system too. Running has various numerous and unpronounced effects on the central nervous system (CNS).

Running helps the body to release a lot of neurotransmitters and many other neurochemicals essential for normal brain activities and body functions. General body functions are maintained with the release of all these neurotransmitters released by the CNS when running.

1. Running helps in endorphin release

The body releases endorphin when you run. Aerobic exercise is generally good for the brain as they improve respiratory rates and allow for more oxygen flow to the brain. It also helps with memory formation.

Endorphin is the body’s natural form of opioids, a morphine-like painkiller that gives a sense of relieve, ease and thrilling well being to the body. It helps to lift the spirit and improve psychological health.

2. Neurogenesis

Running helps the brain to grow. When you run regularly, it gives you mental clarity.

3. Dopamine release

Dopamine is a mood associated with neurotransmitter. Running is good for dopamine release because it is associated with movement. Increased dopamine level decreases the risk of certain neurogenic diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease, a disorder characterized by the tremor.

Running mitigates the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Increased sense of well-being associated with exercising is in part mediated by dopamine.

4. Serotonin release

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps combat depression. Exercises such as running increase the level of serotonin in the brain thus the risk of depression becomes reduced. Exercising to the point of fatigue has a maximal effect on serotonin release. Running is therefore considered a natural antidepressant.

Running has performance-boosting benefits of strengthening musculature and improving the cardiovascular system. It helps with hamstring imbalance. Running improves the neurological system.

The nerves are utilized in running, they play a key role in improving the performance of the body. The electrical wiring makes it possible for the brain to communicate with the limbs and spinal cord.

Exercises generally prevent many health issues of the central nervous system, it serves many potential health advantages like preventing psychological disorders, nerve damage, epilepsy, neurogenic diseases and many more.
